The only Clive Cussler novel made into a movie to date
has been RAISE THE TITANIC! The movie fell so far below
Clive's expectations that he has consistently turned down
offers to make another movie. At one time he asked that
a news release be issued describing the fact that he had
just turned down $10 million for the movie rights to his
books! Liz Smith was one of the few reporters that ran
the story. Many other reporters refused to run the story
because they could not believe anyone would turn down
that amount of money. Clive has always said that he would
not make another movie again unless he was given casting,
director and script approval. Thanks to Clive's wonderful
agent, Peter Lampack, Crusader Entertainment met his terms
and SAHARA will be released in 2004.
Unfortunately, you can still rent RAISE THE TITANIC!
If you have never read a Dirk Pitt® novel perhaps
you will enjoy the film. But, if you are a Clive Cussler
fan, the movie is truly awful. The late actor Richard
Jordan is a fine actor but was miscast since he is entirely
too short and stocky for the 6'3" Dirk Pitt. Giordino
is completely absent from the movie and Loren Smith
is portrayed as a secretary instead of a Congresswoman.
You might also be interested in THE SEA HUNTERS TV
series which debuted in more than 140 countries in July
of 2003. Dr. Cussler participated in two expeditions
in 2001, successfully locating the MARY CELESTE. If
you live in the United States, the program began as
part of the MAYDAY! series on the National Geographic
Channel.
