National Underwater & Marine Agency Web Site Wins Prestigious Award From Lightspan as One of the Best Educational Resources on the Web

PHOENIX, AZ -The National Underwater & Marine Agency (NUMA) is a 501c3 non- profit founded by author Clive Cussler in 1979 to preserve maritime history. Two years ago, Dr. Cussler launched a NUMA Web site to make available the research he and his team of marine archaeologists have gathered in the more than 20 years that they have searched for missing ships and planes. March 6th, that dedication to providing information paid off when Leslie Kenny, Director of Educational Research for the StudyWeb ®, Division of Lightspan, Inc., informed NUMA's Web master, James R. Meyer, that the NUMA Web site has been selected "as one of the best educational resources on the Web by our researchers..."

"I am humbled and gratified to receive this recognition for the NUMA Web site and the work that we do," Cussler stated. "Throughout my career I have tried to work with educators to help students learn to love research and the written word. To receive this recognition for our Web site is truly gratifying. I must thank Jim Meyer for his work keeping the site updated and our Graphic Designer, Wayne Lanford, for recreating the NUMA logo."

The award letter from Lightspan StudyWeb® further stated, "You will be able to view it (the NUMA site) in our History & Social Studies:Archaeology:Marine (Underwater) section very soon http://www.studyweb.com.

StudyWeb® is one of the Internet's premier sites for educational resources for students and teachers. Since 1996, StudyWeb's ® expert reviewers have scoured the Internet to select only the finest sites to be included in StudyWeb's listing of educational links. Each site in StudyWeb ® includes a detailed review describing its editorial and visual merits.

Kenny's award letter continued, "Inclusion in StudyWeb® will increase your exposure and attract new visitors to your site; our reviews have been featured in Yahoos Education Web Directories, WebCrawler Select, The Lycos Top 5%, Education World and many others, and StudyWeb ® updates are provided to media and educational resources around the world. We invite you to display the prestigious 'StudyWeb ® Academic Excellence Award' icon, which is only offered to sites included in the StudyWeb ® directory ... "
