Cussler to Speak at U.S.S. Monitor Ceremony

Dr. Clive Cussler will present the keynote speech to christen the replica of the U.S.S. Monitor on June 11th, 2006, in Newport News, Virginia. The full-scale exhibit replicates the U.S.S. Monitor, which fought the historic first engagement between ironclads during the Civil War at nearby Hampton Roads. The replica is part of a new addition to the Mariners Museum dedicated to the Monitor, featuring important artifacts, recovered from the wreck site off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

Dr. Cussler will be signing books at the museum at 12 P.M., followed by the christening ceremony scheduled for 2 P.M. The Mariners’ Museum is free and open to the public on June 11. Following the Christening, visitors are welcome to tour the Museum and enjoy a variety of family programming within the galleries.
